Sanitary Sewer

As part of the project, the City’s sanitary system is receiving updates. Improvements to the sanitary sewer system include:

  • Manholes: Manholes and home laterals will be lined or rehabilitated as needed to reduce inflow/infiltration (I/I) into the sewer system. Backyard laterals will be lined 10 feet from the main. Streetside laterals will be lined to the property line or about 30 feet total. No cleanouts will be necessary. This will provide a connection point for property owners to rehabilitate their service lateral without impacting the main line system.

  • House laterals: Laterals will be lined to reduce I/I. The backyard laterals will be lined 10-feet. The street-side laterals will be lined to the right-of-way or approximately 30-feet.

  • New lift station: The City’s previous lift station was older than 50 years and caused maintenance and reliability concerns. A new sanitary sewer lift station was recently installed in 2022.

  • New force main: The force main from the new lift station to the nearest manhole in South Shore Drive will be replaced since it is aging and needs rehabilitation.

Impact to Properties:

  • Contractors will need to enter backyards to access house laterals and manholes on each property.

  • Contractors will provide at least a 48-hour notice prior to starting work.

  • Water usage will not be allowed during the period when your lateral is being lined.

  • Your cooperation is appreciated.
